This type was struck in Philadelphia and San Francisco for the Philippine islands 1903-06. A smaller peso of lower fineness was struck in San Francisco 1907-12 (KM 172), after which no silver pesos were struck until the commemorative issues of 1936 (KM 177 and 178). Large size proofs are fairly available, especially for 1903 and 1904; small size proofs exist but are rare. These coins are listed in the Red Book as well as the SCWC and are collected as part of the United States series. The third specimen was lot 3030 in Goldberg sale 34 (Beverly Hills, February 2006). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Philippines]]. Peso, 1903. Toned. PCGS graded Proof 62. Provenance: Purchased private treaty from Zander, $15.00."

The fourth specimen was lot 3555 in Goldberg sale 32 (Beverly Hills, September 2005), where it sold for $170. The catalog description noted, "Philippines. Peso, 1903. This is the first year proofs were struck at the Philadelphia mint for the Philippines and a total of 2,558 were coined. Although ANACS has net graded this coin, we feel the toning is natural and is deserving of a higher grade. ANACS graded Net graded Proof 58 cleaned."
