This specimen was lot 3602 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabruck, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €400 (about US$524 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''BAYERN, SEIT 1623 KURFÜRSTENTUM, SEIT 1806 KÖNIGREICH: Maximilian I. (IV.) Joseph, 1799-1806-1825. Kreuzer 1802, für die Rheinpfalz. Variante ohne "FE" auf der Vorderseite und mit "KREUZ" auf der Rückseite. RR Sehr schön.'' ([[Germany]], electorate of [[German States, Bavaria|Bavaria]], Maximilian Joseph, 1799-1825, kreuzer of 1802, for the Palatinate. Variety without "FE" on the obverse and with "KREUZ" on the reverse. Rare, very fine.)"</blockquote> Maximilian Joseph reunited the two branches of the Wittelsbachs, the dukes of Bavaria and the counts of the Palatinate, after being divided for centuries. The Palatinate was seized and partitioned between France and Baden in 1795 (western part) and 1803 (eastern part) and Bavaria received only part of it back by the Congress of Vienna. This is just about the last coin struck specifically for the Palatinate.
