This ''medio dinero,'' or half dime, was struck in Lima in 1898. Most issued after 1898 were made from melted down one ''sol'' coins. Varieties and overdates abound; for 1898, an 1898/7 overdate is recorded in addition to the normal date. There is also assayer JF. A earlier type, with a slightly different figure of seated Liberty, was issued 1863-64 (KM 189). The silver coin was replaced in 1918 by a copper-nickel five centavos.
