This specimen was lot 1370 in Sedwick Auction 36 (Winter Park, FL, November 2024), where it sold for $. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Peru|PERU]], Lima, 1 real, 1851 MB, NGC MS 62, finest and only example in NGC census, ex-Whittier, ex-O'Brien. Decent luster with light amber luster all over, faint hairlines on Liberty side, choice grade nevertheless. Pedigreed to the Whittier Collection (stated on label, Heritage auction of June 2006, lot 17483) and to the John O'Brien Collection, with his tag." The early republic issued one reales 1825-40 with an interruption 1837-38 while the coinage of [[North Peru 1838/7-L MB 1 real|North Peru]] was issued. In 1841, the design was modified to add the fineness to the shield side (shown here) and struck at Lima 1841-43, 1846-51, 1855-56. This is a common date.
