The first specimen was lot 2047 in Classical Numismatic Group's auction of the Robert Lissner collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $1,028.50. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "PERU, Republic. 1821-present. AR 2 Reales. Lima mint. Dated 1841 (LIMÆ) MB. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 64. Very choice coin with light to moderate original patina. Only coin of this date graded. Purchased from David Cannon, August 1985." This specimen is one of a series struck 1840-56 at the Lima mint. The date is listed in the SCWC as common, tho all Peruvian minors are scarcer in nice condition than the catalog values would indicate. Assayer MB is recorded for 1838-56. It was legal tender in the United States until 1857 for 25¢. This specimen realized six times the catalog value.
