The catalog description&lt;sup&gt;[1]&lt;/sup&gt; noted, &quot;Arequipa, Peru, 8 reales, 1841M, very rare. Deeply toned VF with two small edge-flaws (as made) and very old file-marks at top due to mounting, very rare one-year issue with high catalog value and auction results, one of reportedly only four known and among the rarest and most important crowns of the early Latin American Republics, also one of the first to show fineness in the legend per 1840 decree to root out debased coinage.&quot; At this point, the branch mints Cuzco and Arequipa were winding down their operations after being very busy in the 1820's and 30's. The last Cuzco eight reales was issued in 1840 ([[Peru 1840-Cuz A 8 reales|KM 142.9]]) and the last Arequipa eight reales was in 1841 (shown here). The Pasco mint was open and made an irregular issue of four reales 1843-57 (KM 151.4 thru KM 151.10).
