This specimen was lot 1228 in Sedwick Auction 37 (Winter Park, FL, May 2025), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Peru|PERU]], Lima, gold bust 4 escudos, Charles IV, 1795 IJ, rare, NGC AU 53, finest known in NGC census, ex-Almenara. Cal-1457; Fr-41; KM-98. Choice luster with lovely light red toning, the obverse hairlined and lightly worn but the reverse nearly pristine save for adjustment marks in center, the only other example at NGC being VF. Pedigreed to the Almenara Collection." This type was struck 1791-1801, 1804-1807 for king Charles IV. He succeeded Charles III in 1788, but as there were delays in getting punches for the new bust out to the Latin American mints, the old hubs were used with the new king's name thru 1791. Assayer IJ is recorded for 1787-1803.
