This coin is one of a series struck 1792-1808 during the reign of Charles IV (1788-1808). As a class, colonial coinage of [[Peru]] is much less plentiful than that of Mexico, tho it is more available than the remaining mints. Harris<sup>[1]</sup> noted finding about one-third as many Peruvian eight reales of Charles IV as that of Mexico, so it is safe to say that this type is not rare. Assayer "IJ" is noted for the years 1787-1803.

This example was lot 61452 and sold on Jan 11, 2011 for $253 at the 2011 January World & Ancient coins Non-Floor Session #3013 by Heritage Auctions. The catalog description reads: "Carlos IIII 8 Reales 1793 Lima IJ, XF45 NGC."
