This specimen was lot 757 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 39 (Winter Park, FL, May 2026), where it sold for $390. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Peru|PERU]], Lima, cob 1 real, 1740/39 V, very rare, ex-Ugaz. Good full cross and pillars, both with visible dates, the overdate detectable between the pillars with the 4 clearly thin as modified from a 3 and the 0 with straight right side as modified from a 9 (second example we have seen), full assayer, VF with contrasting toning. Pedigreed to the Jorge Ugaz Collection." This type was struck 1729-47 for the Bourbon king Philip V. Assayer de Vargas ("V") stamped his coins 1739-48. In 1728, the cobs were debased from 0.931 fine to 0.917 fine silver. In 1732, the Mexico City mint began its transition to milled coinage, a process Lima would not undertake until 1751.
