This specimen was lot 697 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 39 (Winter Park, FL, May 2026), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Peru|PERU]], Lima, cob 8 reales, 1734 N, cross-of-five-dots at top, ex-Ugaz, Calbetó Plate. Choice full pillars-and-waves and cross-lions-castles in VF+ grade (light scuff below bottom-right castle), deeply toned, with bold date, two assayers, and three mintmarks, flat peripheries, scarce date. Pedigreed to the Jorge Ugaz Collection and the Schulman auction of June 1958, also Plate Coin 310 in Calbetó's book ''Compendio de las piezas de ocho reales'' (1970)." Cob eight reales were struck at the Lima mint 1701-46 for Philip V of Spain and became the "pieces of eight" of pirate lore. Assayer Negron y Colmenares ("N") stamped his coins 1728-38. The cobs were debased from 0.931 to 0.917 fine in 1728.
