This specimen was lot 74178 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2024), where it sold for $312. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Peru|PERU]]. Cob 2 Reales, 1734-L N. Lima Mint. Philip V. NGC AU-50. This lovely cob features a crisp partial date on each side, bold denomination, mintmark, and other satisfying design elements. Lacking any real defect, the elegantly toned surfaces retain a great deal of originality with just a touch of dark tone on the reverse." This type was struck for Philip V 1726-47. In 1725, king Philip V abdicated in favor of his favorite son Louis, who died ten months later, forcing the old king to resume the throne. Assayer Negron y Colmenares stamped his coins 1728-38. The cobs were debased from 0.931 to 0.917 fine in 1728.
