This specimen was lot 1874 in Sedwick Auction 36 (Winter Park, FL, November 2024), where it sold for $. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Peru|PERU]], Lima, cob 2 reales, 1728 M, ex-Ponte. Nice VF with bold partial pillars (off-center) and cross, clear date and assayer, edges a bit crude as made. Pedigreed to the Luis R. Ponte Collection." Two reales of this type were struck through the reign of Philip V. Assayer M stamped his coins 1709-28. Specimens with legible dates are scarce. In 1728, the silver cobs were debased from 0.931 fine to 0.917 fine with no change in design. The [[Peru 1728-L N 8 escudos|mintage of gold]] commenced in 1696.
