This specimen was lot 688 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 38 (Winter Park, FL, November 2025), where it sold for $2,160. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Peru|PERU]], Lima, cob 2 reales Royal (galano), 1714/3 M, extremely rare, ex-Santa Rosa de Lima. Perfectly round as shaved around edge, with choice full interior details, some legend, nicely toned VF with tiny hole at very edge near left end of cross, possibly unique as we have no record of another. Pedigreed to the Jorge Ugaz Collection of Lima Silver Cob 2 Reales and to the Santa Rosa de Lima Collection (Sedwick Auction 18, lot 573)." In 1684, the regime in Madrid finally permitted the viceroy to reopen the Lima mint on a permanent basis and two reales of this type were struck 1701-28. Assayer M is reported for 1712-27. Specimens with legible dates are scarce. The [[Peru 1714-L M 8 escudos|mintage of gold]] commenced in 1696.
