This specimen was lot 1403 in Jean Elsen sale 161 (Brussels, March 2025), where it sold for €190 (about US$247 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''ITALIE, ÉTATS PONTIFICAUX, Grégoire XVI (1831-1846), (Bartolomeo Alberto Cappellari), AR scudo, 1835 B, an 5, Bologne.'' ([[Italy]], [[Vatican|Papal tates]], Gregory XVI, 1831-46, silver scudo of 1835, year V, Bologna mint. Extremely Fine.)"</blockquote> The first coinage reform in the Papal States was implemented in the early 1830's during the reign of Gregory XVI (1831-46). All the doppie, zecchini, guili, testoni, etc., were dropped in favor of a silver [[Papal States 1835-B scudo Dav-192|scudo]] divided into one hundred baiocchi. Gold one, [[Papal States 1835-R 2-1/2 scudi Fr-267|2½]], five and [[Papal States 1836-R 10 scudi|ten scudi]] were minted at Rome and Bologna until 1865. This type was struck 1835-46 at Rome and Bologna and this is a common date.
