[[Pakistan]] was formed in 1947-48 when the British left [[India]] and India was partitioned. East Pakistan seceded in 1971 and formed the state of [[Bangladesh]]. Pakistan has struggled with legitimacy, corruption and tribal conflict since. This type was struck for circulation 1981-91. The denomination was suspended until 1998, when a bronze type with the portrait of founder Mohammed Ali Jinnah (KM 62) was issued. In 1982, US$1 = 11.7 rupees; as of September 2019, US$1 = 156.7 rupees.
