The lowest mintage date of the series with 16,000 pieces struck, NGC graded EF40.&quot; This type was struck fairly steadily for Newfoundland 1865-96. Of the 1,140,000 struck of the type, 400,000 were made in 1896. It is a trifle heavier than the Canadian five cent piece of the period.
