This specimen is an offf-metal strike of a type struck at the Utrecht mint for the [[Netherlands]] 1913-14, 1923-40. Most of the dates are common but no copper-nickel five cents dated 1935 are known to exist. We aren't certain of the origin of these images but we believe they came from Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014). Lot 24744 sold there for $3,290 and the catalog description[1] noted, "Netherlands, Wilhelmina I gold Pattern 5 Cents 1935, MS65 NGC. Carefully struck with prooflike fields accentuating lightly frosted devices. This very rare pattern in gold is exceptional in its appearance and is the finest example we have been able to locate in our research." Similar pieces sold in CNG Triton XIX (New York, January 2016, lot 2609, realized $2,750) and St. James's auction 36 (London, April 2016, lot 583, realized 2,600 pounds). To our knowledge, none have appeared since.
