This specimen was lot 1320 in Jean Elsen sale 164 (Brussels, March 2026), where it sold for €1,100 (about US$1,532 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, <blockquote>"''BELGIQUE, Royaume des Pays-Bas, Guillaume Ier (1815-1830), AV ducat, 1828 B, Bruxelles. Très Beau à Superbe.'' (kingdom of the [[Netherlands]], William I, 1815-30, gold ducat of 1828, Brussels mint. Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"</blockquote> William I is listed here as king of Belgium when actually he was king of the Netherlands 1815-40. Belgium declared independence in 1830. William abdicated in 1840 and died in 1843. This type was struck 1817-40 with various privy marks. Most were made at Utrecht, but Brussels contributed 1824-30. Many more were made in Russia, indistinguishable from Utrecht mint issues. After 1816, the "TRA" was dropped from the obverse legend.
