This specimen was lot 43152 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $15,600. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[India|INDIA]]. [[India, Mughal Empire|Mughal Empire]]. Mohur, AH 1223 Year 2 (1808/9). Delhi (Shahjahanabad) Mint. Akbar II. PCGS MS-64. Obverse: "Sikka Mubarak Sahib-e-Qiran Sani Muhammad Akbar Badshah Gazi"; Reverse: "Zarb Darul-Khilafat (Shahjahanabad), Sanah 2, Julus Mainamat Manus". Amongst the RAREST of Mughal Mohurs, emanating from the penultimate Mughal Ruler, Akbar II. Standing as the finest example yet encountered by PCGS, this lovely near-Gem gleams and glows when held in the light, and the beautiful calligraphy is sharply and boldly applied. We expect substantial competition for this example, as the type simply does not surface this attractive with any great frequency." The Mughal Empire dominated India during the seventeenth century but broke up in the eighteenth century under external attack, Hindu rebellion and civil war. By the reign of Shah Akbar II, the emperor's realm barely stretched past the outskirts of the city of Delhi. He survived only because his neighbors, including the British, could not decide on who or what should replace him. This type was struck at Shahjahanabad (a district in Delhi) in years 3 and 6. Like most mohurs, it is expensive.
