This specimen was lot 34024 in Heritage sale 3098 (New York, January 2022), where it sold for $3,360. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Italy]]: [[Italy, Milan|Milan]]. Franz II gold Sovrano 1795-M MS63 PCGS, Milan mint. Flashy and semi-reflective owing to a firm strike that leaves superbly rendered detail throughout the central motifs. The sole example certified by PCGS to date." his type is recorded for the Duchy of Milan 1792-1800. Similar coins with other mintmarks (Brussels, Vienna, etc.) are listed under the Austrian Netherlands. The duchy of Milan was Spanish until 1714, when it passed to the Austrians, who lost it to Revolutionary France in 1797. After the fall of Napoleon in 1815, it returned to Hapsburg rule until the unification of Italy in 1859-60.
