This specimen was lot 148 in Aureo sale 242 (Barcelona, March 2012), where it sold for 650 € ($1,009 including buyer's fee). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''Carlos III, Pretendiente (1700-1714). 1707. Milán. 1 felipe. Anv.: CAROLVS III REX HISPANIAR . Rev.: MEDIOLANI - DVX ET C . Rara. MBC+.'' (Duchy of Milan, Pretender Charles III of Spain, 1700-14, filippo of 1707. Obverse legend: Charles III king of Spain; reverse legend: duke of Milan. Rare, very fine plus.)"</blockquote>

The duchy of [[Italy, Milan|Milan]] was under Spanish administration from the time of Charles I (1516-56) to the death of Charles II in 1700. Philip V, grandson of Louis XIV, became king of Spain but under the terms of the treaty of Utrecht of 1713, was forced to cede Milan to the Austrians, who ruled it until the coming of Napoleon. This one year type was issued in the name of the pretender Charles III, who later became emperor Charles VI. Altho this type is rare, it is more avaiable than preceding (Dav-1379) or succeeding types (Dav 1382).
