The first specimen was lot 1890 in Sincona sale 47 (Zurich, May 2018), where it sold for 400 CHF (about US$480 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, <blockquote>"''ITALY, Milan, Filippo II. 1556-1598. Mezzo scudo 1588. Sehr schön.'' (duchy of Milan, Philip II, 1556-98, half scudo of 1588, Very fine.)"</blockquote> The second specimen was lot 34244 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), where it sold for $1,020. The catalog description[2] noted, "[[Italy]]: Milan. Philip II of Spain 1/2 Scudo 1588 AU55 PCGS. Well-struck for the type, with touches of blue tone throughout bolstering strong eye appeal." The [[Spain|Spanish]] issues for Milan ended with the death of Charles II in 1700, when the duchy passed to [[Austria]], which held it until the coming of Napoleon.
