This specimen was lot 1945 in Classical Numismatic Group's auction of the Robert Lissner collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $145.20. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "MEXICO, Estados Unidos Mexicanos. 1905-pres. Æ 20 Centavos. Ciudad de México (Mexico City) mint. Dated 1935 Mo. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 66 BN. Beautiful lustrous brown with faint hints of the underlying red luster. A scarce two year type, especially in this grade. None graded higher." In 1935, a brief spike in the price of silver forced the mint to suspend the production of coin in that metal. This affected the ten, twenty, fifty centavos and one peso. The ten centavos was issued in bronze (KM 435) then converted to copper-nickel (KM 432). The twenty centavos was issued in bronze (shown here, reviving a design using in 1919) then returned to silver in 1937-42. The fifty centavos was converted to billon (KM 448) then resumed in silver 1937-45. The peso was suspended 1935-38.
