This specimen was lot 31279 in Heritage sale 3041 (Chicago, August 2015), where it sold for $810.75. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "Charles IV gold Escudo 1802 Mo-FT MS62 NGC, [[Mexico]] City mint. Lustrous Mint State with appealing surface quality, exhibiting strong attributes commonplace to higher graded coins, with a unusual planchet crack across the date possibly be the only factor holding it back. Very scarce in this quality and a wholly satisfying representative of the type. From The Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins." All Mexican colonial gold may be considered scarce. The type was struck 1792-1808 and is the most plentiful of all the colonial one escudos. This is the second date of the new assayer FT.
