This 1763 one real is one of a series struck 1760-1771 for Carlos III. It displays an imperial crown atop the pillar to the left of the globes. Prior to 1757-1758, both crowns were of the royal type. There are several varieties for 1763 including a 3/2 overdate. The example shown is the normal variety and is listed by Gilboy[1] as scarce.

Mexican numismatists hotly debate which side of the coin constitutes the obverse. Gilboy[1] depicts the shield side as the obverse as that side bears the king's name. However, auction catalogs and dealer listings more frequently use the pillars and globes side as the obverse, as that side bears the date.
