This 1757/6 2 reales is one of a series struck 1747-57 during the reign of Ferdinand VI (1746-59). It shows similar crowns atop the pillars on the date side (in this year there is also a variety with an imperial crown to the left of the globes). The first example is a very self-evident overdate, which Gilboy[1] lists as very rare. The regular issue for this year lists as uncommon, and the variety with the imperial left crown as scarce.

Mexican numismatists hotly debate which side of the coin constitutes the obverse. Gilboy[1] depicts the shield side as the obverse as that side bears the king's name. However, auction catalogs and dealer listings more frequently use the pillars and globes side as the obverse, as that side bears the date.
