This specimen was lot 498 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 28 (Winter Park, FL, November 2020), where it sold for $405. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "Mexico City, [[Mexico]], cob 8 reales, 1661P, rare. Full and clear 61 of date above full oMP, good full shield and cross (the latter slightly doubled) but all a bit weakly struck and with very light surface pitting, overall Fine, toned all over." This specimen is a silver cob eight reales struck at Mexico City 1621-65. Specimens with clear dates are unusual. In 1728, cobs were debased from .931 to .917 fine silver.
