This specimen was lot 31011 in Heritage sale 3105 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $3,360. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Germany|German States]]: [[German States, Mansfeld|Mansfeld]]. Hoyer VI, Gebhard VII, Albrecht VII & Philipp Taler 1536 MS64 NGC, Eisleben mint. Mint State Talers from the early 16th century are very rare, especially when encountered as well-struck and fully detailed as seen here. Residual luster on the lightly toned surfaces punctuates the strictly argent appearances, elevating the crisp devices throughout. From the Cape Coral Collection, Part II." Mansfeld and its subdivisions were counties of utmost insignificance except for its silver mines which provided the material for an abundance of thalers. The county of Mansfeld, already divided among four brothers, was permanently split in 1530 over religious differences. This is a joint coinage, their third and last.
