This specimen was lot 52431 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Malaysia|MALAYSIA]]. 200 Ringgit, 2003. Malaysian (Shah Alam) Mint. NGC MS-68. Emanating from the bullion series and featuring the Kijang Emas, this nearly flawless specimen radiates with glistening brilliance and drips with luster." The crude design suggests a private mint but this appears to be an official issue. The ''kijang emas'' (''Muntiacus muntjak''), known in English as the barking deer or southern red muntjac, is common throughout Southeast Asia, including Malaya and Borneo.<br />

Wikipedia comments, <blockquote>"The Malaysian Kijang Emas was first minted in December 2000 by the Royal Mint of Malaysia. It was launched by the then Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad on 17 July 2001. Malaysia is the 12th country in the world to issue its own gold bullion coin, and joins the ranks of the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf, American Gold Eagle, Australian Gold Nugget, and South African Krugerrand."</blockquote> The Wikipedia page notes that the coin is available in one ounce (shown here), half ounce (RM100) and quarter ounce (RM50) sizes. As of August 2023, US$1 = 4.65 Malaysian ringgit, making this coin theoretically worth about US$43.01; it is, of course, sold at its gold price.<br />
