This specimen was lot 1002 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €360 (about US$485 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''MAGDEBURG, ERZBISTUM, August von Sachsen-Weissenfels, 1638-1680. 2/3 Taler 1675, Halle. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Exemplar der Slg. Bernhard Terletzki. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 20, Osnabrück 1991, Nr. 2816.'' ([[Germany]], archbishopric of Magdeburg, Augustus of Saxe-Weissenfels, 1638-80, two-thirds thaler of 1675, Halle mint. Very fine to extremley fine.)"</blockquote> By the second half of the sixteenth century, the archbishopric of Magdeburg was completely converted to Lutheranism yet the ecclesiastical state was not abolished. Instead, it became a puppet state of the elector of Brandenburg, who either appointed himself or one of his close relatives archbishop. Brandenburg annexed it outright in 1680. Numerous types of gulden were issued for this state in the 1670's. Besides KM 172 shown here, we also see KM-171, -173, -174, -175.1 and -175.2 for 1675.
