This specimen was lot 1003 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €5,750 (about US$7,747 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''MAGDEBURG, STADT, Reichstaler 1673. Stadtansicht, darüber strahlender Name Jehovas//Behelmtes, vierfeldiges Wappen, zu den Seiten die Signatur C - P (Christoph Pflug, Münzmeister in Magdeburg 1672-1678, 1682/1683). RR Attraktives Exemplar mit feiner Tönung, vorzüglich.'' ([[Germany]], city of Magdeburg, thaler of 1673. Obverse: city view, shining name of the Lord above; reverse: helmeted, quartered arms. Rare, attractive example with fine toning, extremely fine.)"</blockquote> By the second half of the sixteenth century, the archbishopric of Magdeburg was completely converted to Lutheranism yet the ecclesiastical state was not abolished. Instead, it became a puppet state of the elector of Brandenburg, who either appointed himself or one of his close relatives archbishop. Brandenburg annexed it outright in 1680. This issue of 1673 is accompanied by a 1¼ ([[Magdeburg 1673-CP 1-1/4 thaler Dav-5525B|Dav-5525B]]) and double thalers (Dav-5525) struck from the same dies. The larger issues had the denomination punched in. The closely related [[Magdeburg 1673-CP thaler Dav-5526|Dav-5526]] had a slightly different obverse legend.
