This specimen was lot 259 in Sincona sale 78 (Zurich, October 2022), where it sold for 1,000 CHF (about US$1,199 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Russia|RUSSIA]] | Russian Empire and Federation | Elizabeth, 1741-1761, 48 Kopecks 1757, Red Mint. Mintage for the Baltic Area, Livland and Estonia. 5 roubles according to Petrov. 3 roubles according to Ilyin. Very fine." This coin was issued by the tsarina for the recently occupied province of Livonia, now part of [[Latvia]]. The region was conquered from pagan tribes by the Teutonic Knights and after their collapse, traded among [[Poland]], [[Sweden]] and Russia, which held it 1721-1918. This denomination was accompanied by two, [[Livonia 1757 4 kopeks|four]], [[Livonia 1757 24 kopeks|24]] and [[Livonia 1757 96 kopeks|96 kopeks]] and was minted in Moscow.
