This specimen was lot 2700 in Sincona sale 83 (Zurich, May 2023), where it sold for 180 CHF (about US$241 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "Getto Litzmannstadt, 5 ''Mark (Quittung über) (1943), Lodz. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Leichte Prägeschwäche. Die Quittungen über 5 Mark wurden im Getto als letztes Nominal 1944 geprägt'' (Litzmannstadt ghetto, five mark token of 1943, Very fine-extremely fine, Slightly weakly struck, Tho dated 1943, these were made in 1944)." The Nazis renamed Lodz in [[Poland]] to Litzmannstadt after Karl Litzmann (1850-1936), WW I general and Nazi party member. [[Litzmannstadt 1942 10 pfennig|Ten pfennig]], [[Litzmannstadt 1943 10 mark|ten]] and twenty mark tokens also exist and are scarce. The ghetto was liquidated in 1944 and all its inhabitants sent to the death camps.
