This specimen was lot 72064 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it sold for $1,080. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Japan|JAPAN]]. 5 Yen, Year 30 (1897). Osaka Mint. NGC MS-65. A sharply struck and very attractive example displaying smooth satiny surfaces with nice cartwheel luster displaying lovely mottled orange patina. From the BKingdom Collection." This type was struck 1897-98, 1903, 1911-12. It superseded the prior five yen ([[Japan 1893 (M26) 5 yen|Fr-47]]) which was twice the weight. Both types were struck in 1897.
