This specimen was lot 51218 in Stack's Bowers Hong Kong auction (Hong Kong, April 2021), where it sold for $600. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Japan|JAPAN]]. 50 Sen, Year 6 (1873). Osaka Mint. Mutsuhito (Meiji). PCGS MS-64 Gold Shield. Type 2, short year character on obverse. A beautiful representative of the type displaying lovely multicolored patina over satiny surfaces with nice cartwheel luster and frosty devices offering much originality and eye appeal destined for a fine collection. Ex: Ponterio & Associates (3/2010) Lot # 8635." This type, roughly equal to a half dollar, was issued 1873-77, 1880, [[Japan 1885 (M18) 50 sen|1885]] and 1897-1905. The later dates are common.
