The first specimen was lot 5085 in Goldberg sale 69 (Los Angeles, May, 2012), where it sold for $1,322.50. The catalog description [2] noted, "[[Italy]]. 5 Lire, 1911-R. Victor Emmanuel III, 1900-1946. For the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the kingdom Head left. Reverse: Allegorical figures, a factory, prow of a ship. Lustrous with a hint of golden toning. Popular one year type. Scarce. NGC graded AU-58." The second specimen was lot 1397 in Sincona sale 6 (Zurich, May 2012), where it sold for 1100 CHF (about US$1,354 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, <blockquote>"''ITALIEN Königreich Vittorio Emanuele III. 1900-1944. 5 Lire 1911, Roma. Kr. Sehr schön-vorzüglich.'' (Italy, Victor Emanuel III, 1900-44, five lire of 1911, very fine to extremely fine.)"</blockquote> This one year type was issued to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the unification of Italy. Most must have been melted as the type is rare today. The last full size five lire was issued in 1914.
