This specimen was lot 443 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $3,600. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Iran|SAFAVID]]: Tahmasp II, 1722-1732, AR 10 shahi (= 2-1/2 abbasis), Mashhad-i Muqaddas, AH1141, this appears to be the first known example of the 10 shahi issue by Tahmasp II at Mashhad (Rabino lists only Isfahan and Kirman, plus Tabriz cited by Krause); bold strike, mount removed as virtually always for the large presentation denominations, bold VF, RRRR." Wikipedia comments, "Tahmasp II (Persian: شاه تهماسب دوم, c.1704-40) was the penultimate Safavid shah of Iran, ruling from 1722 to 1732. By 1729, Tahmasp had control of most of the country. Quickly after his foolhardy Ottoman campaign of 1731, he was deposed by the future Nader Shah in 1732 in favor of his son, Abbas III; both were murdered at Sabzevar in 1740 by Nader Shah's eldest son Reza-qoli Mirza."
