This specimen was lot 6735 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $940. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "HUNGARY. 1/2 Taler, 1706-MM. Francis II Rakoczi (1704-11). NGC EF Details--Tooled. A RARE issue from the revolutionary forces who rebelled against Habsburg rule after Leopold I withdrew the main contingent of his forces from Hungary to assist in the War of Spanish Succession. Planchet flaw on obverse in southwest quadrant as made, otherwise quite a nicely minted piece free of doubling or weakness. Some evidence of light tooling in open areas. Deeply toned in most areas with a few winks of luster in protected areas. From the Mezo-Toth Kalman Collection." The MM mintmark indicates the Munkacs mint, which struck this type 1706 only. It was also struck at Kremnitz 1704-07 and is more common therefrom.
