This specimen was lot 1853 in Stephen Album sale 37 (Santa Rosa, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $416.50. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "HOLLAND: Dutch Republic, AV ducat, Holland, 1769, KM-7, EF, ex Ahmed Sultan Collection. During the 15th century, international traders in Western Europe shifted from the florin to the ducat as their preferred trading currency. As rulers reformed their currencies, they most frequently used the ducat as a model for international trade. The Mamluk ashrafi, the Ottoman altun, and the Castilian ducat are examples based on the European ducats." This type was struck without change 1702-92 and is priced in the SCWC as a common date. Holland was the largest and wealthiest part of the United Provinces, now the kingdom of the Netherlands.
