This specimen was lot 74571 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $192. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Germany|GERMANY]]. [[German States, Brunswick-Luneburg|Brunswick-Luneburg]]: [[German States, Hannover|Hannover]]. 24 Mariengroschen (2/3 Taler), 1765-IAP. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg III (George III of Great Britain). PCGS AU-55. KM-347; Welter-2812. Illuminated by plentiful mint luster, attractive gunmetal-gray toning can be found on both sides. The strike is fairly sharp with full centers and only a hint of weakness in the reverse legend. A survivor that is sure to attract collector demand due to its originality and excellent overall preservation. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1762-84 for George III and reverts to the 24 mariengroschen denomination after two-thirds thalers were struck for George II.
