This specimen was lot 1193 in Jean Elsen sale 149 (Brussels, December 2021), where it sold for €65 (about US$88 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''ALLEMAGNE, HAMELN, AR 6 Mariengroschen, 1672IB. D/ Porte fortifiée. R/ Valeur dans le champ. Très Beau.'' ([[Germany]], city of Hameln, silver six mariengroschen of 1672. Obverse: fortified gate; reverse: value. Very Fine.)"</blockquote> This town in Brunswick-Luneburg issued thalers in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. It is most famous as the place where the Pied Piper allegedly tooted away all the rats. This type was struck 1668-69, 1672 along with four and 12 mariengroschen. Six mariengroschen = one-sixth thaler.<br />
