This type was struck in [[Guatemala]] 1824-47 and in [[Costa Rica]] in 1831. The assayer is M and the legend reads "CREZCA/CRESCA." The type is listed in the SCWC under the [[Central American Republic]]. This federation was an attempt to unite all the former Spanish provinces of Central America into one country but collapsed amid recrimination and civil war. This specimen was lot 30646 in Stack's Bowers ANA auction (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $317.25. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "GUATEMALA. 8 Reales, 1826-M. NGC EF-40. Nice toning."
