This specimen was lot 31803 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $1,140. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Greece]]: Othon Drachma 1846 XF45 NGC. The key date of this fairly short series, this dove-gray specimen reveals fiery autumnal tones around the peripheries that ignite with every turn. Remnants of luster are observed, while wear is predominantly kept to the higher points and evidence of handling remains rather minimum. From the Collection of a Philhellene." This is a rare date of a type struck 1833-34 and 1845-47.

The second son of King Ludwig I of Bavaria, Otto ascended the newly created throne of Greece at age 17. His government was initially run by a three-man regency council made up of Bavarian court officials. Upon reaching his majority, Otto removed the regents when they proved unpopular with the people, and he ruled as an absolute monarch. Eventually his subjects' demands for a constitution proved overwhelming, and in the face of an armed (but bloodless) insurrection, Otto granted a constitution in 1843."</blockquote>
