This ten new pence, or 1/10 of a pound, was introduced in 1968 as part of the decimal reform. It was equal to the florin in the sterling coinage. This design was used until 1982, when the word "new" was dropped. None were struck for circulation in 1972 and 1978. The weight was reduced to 6.5 g in 1992.
