This specimen was lot 1888 in Sincona sale 82 (Zurich, May 2023), where it sold for 11,000 CHF (about US$14,721 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "Victoria, 1837-1901. Pattern Double Florin 1868, London. Coroneted bust, plain edge, die axis 12h (en medaille). By William Wyon. ''Äusserst selten'' (Extremely rare). NGC PF63+ ULTRA CAMEO. ''Prachtvolle Erhaltung'' (Magnificent condition). From auction Spink America, New York City, March 1997, lot 78. This pattern was one of a series of pieces of this period experimenting with the concept of producing coins for international trade." This unusual pattern seems to have been intended for a gold four shillings, a denomination of colossal uselessness. It was not adopted.
