The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''GOSLAR, STADT, Reichstaler 1611, mit Titel Rudolfs II. Von großer Seltenheit. Hübsche Patina, sehr schön.'' (city of Goslar, thaler of 1611, struck in the name of Rudolf II. Extremely rare, handsome patina, very fine.)"</blockquote> Goslar was an imperial city surrounded by [[German States, Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel|Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel]] and often acted as a mint for the dukes of that state. The city minted an extensive series of minor coinage in the seventeenth century. Thalers, including this one, are well attested but are listed in the SCWC as half thalers.
