This specimen was lot 74705 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $216. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "[[Germany|GERMANY]]. [[Germany, Weimar Republic (1918-1933)|Weimar Republic]]. 5 Mark, 1927-A. Berlin Mint. PCGS MS-64. Oak tree type. Verdant surfaces are awash with satin luster and very smooth for the assigned near-Gem level. Sure to appeal to specialists who appreciate originality and some tinted patina on their examples." This type, issued 1927-33, was struck in large numbers in Berlin ("A"), Munich ("D"), Muldenhutten ("E"), Stuttgart ("F", shown here), Karlsruhe ("G") and Hamburg ("J"). It is, however, expensive; perhaps they were melted during World War Two. We have included it in our category of thalers based on its size, even tho it is only .500 fine.
