This specimen was lot 1949 in Goldberg sale 115 (Los Angeles, February 2020), where it sold for $4,560. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "Italian States: [[Italy, Genoa|Genoa]]. 12 Lire, 1793. Crowned arms supported by griffins. Reverse: Madonna and child. Very Rare. NGC graded MS-61." The piece is accompanied by gold 24, 48 and 96 lire, all expensive. Genoa was occupied by Napoleon in 1798 and made into the puppet Ligurian Republic. Genoa never recovered its independence; in 1815 it was annexed by the kingdom of [[Italy, Sardinia|Sardinia]] and is now part of [[Italy]]. <br />
