This specimen was lot 4288 in SINCONA Auction 98 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 1,000 CHF (about US$1,451 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted, <blockquote>"''SCHWEIZ Genf/Genève, Stadt und Kanton, 2 Centimes 1838, Genf. Probe von Antoine Bovy. Kupfer. Avers zu Revers gegenständig. Äusserst selten. Fast FDC.'' ([[Switzerland]], [[Switzerland, Geneva|canton of Geneva]], two centimes of 1838, Geneva mint, pattern by Antoine Bovy, struck in copper. Obverse and reverse switched, extremely rare, About Mint State.)
''Mit Gesetz vom 7. Februar 1838 entschied die Obrigkeit Genfs, das Dezimalsystem für das Geld Genfs endgültig einzuführen, nachdem während Jahrhunderten in Deniers, Sous und Florins gerechnet wurde. Auslöser für diesen Wechsel waren die Vorschläge von Bürger James Fazy-Pasteur, der vehement das französische Frankensystem empfahl. Fazy ging sogar soweit vorzuschlagen, dass die inneren Werte der Nominale nicht mehr dem eigentlichen Wert entsprechen müssten, solange der Staat jederzeit bereit sei, den Gegenwert in Silber einzutauschen. Er riet dazu, Geldstücke in Papierform auszugeben. Diese Änderung verlangte verständlicherweise auch nach einem geänderten Aussehen der Münzen. Beteiligt an den Probevorschlägen waren die Brüder Antoine, Jules und Marc-Louis Bovy mit ihrem Atelier an der Rue de Chevelu 51, dann Auguste Bovet und vermutlich auch der Stuttgarter M. Goellner (siehe dessen Entwurf in Slg. Bürki, Teil 2 - Auktion 95, Los 4278).'' (By law of February 7, 1838, the Geneva authorities decided to definitively introduce the decimal system for Geneva's currency, after centuries of calculating in deniers, sous, and florins. This change was triggered by proposals by citizen James Fazy-Pasteur, who vehemently recommended the French franc system. Fazy even went so far as to suggest that the intrinsic values of the denominations no longer needed to correspond to their actual value, as long as the state was always ready to exchange the equivalent in silver. He advised issuing coins in paper form. This change understandably also required a new designs. Participants in the trial proposals were the brothers Antoine, Jules, and Marc-Louis Bovy, with their studio at 51 Rue de Chevelu, then Auguste Bovet, and presumably also M. Goellner of Stuttgart (see his design in the Bürki Collection, Part 2 - Auction 95, Lot 4278).)"</blockquote> The production series of 1839 included one, two, four, ten and twenty-five centimes, all in billon. All cantonal issues ceased in 1848 and confederate coinage was introduced in 1850.
