This specimen is a common date of a series struck 1920-38 during the waning years of the [[France|French]] Third Republic. It was superseded by a similar coin struck in copper-nickel-zinc 1938-39. This design was also used for similar [[France 1936 25 centimes|twenty-five]] and [[France 1936 10 centimes KM-889.1|ten centime]] pieces; the central hole kept it from being confused with higher denominations of similar diameters. This coin is very common in circulated condition but hard to find choice.
